Region 5 :
Xigia, Makris Gialos, St Nicholas, Skinari, Volimes, Anafonitria and Vromi Bay
This region is the north of Zakynthos, the western side is mountainous and the east has good beaches such as Xigia thought of as a health spa as high sulphur content is found here - renowned as being good for removing cellulite!
Volimes is the most famous mountain village on the island and it is possible to buy local produce, such as honey, cheese, wine, handmade carpets and embroidery.
Anafonitria is the location of a pretty monastery.
Skinari is a picturesque place with panoramic views over the island and also across to Kefalonia. From here you can take boat trips to the Blue Caves and Shipwreck.
St Nicholas is a charming port and from here ferries run to Kefalonia.
This area is really beautiful and undeveloped, so great for anyone looking for rural living. The nearest town for supermarkets, post office, pharmacy and doctors is Katastari (see area 4 for details about Katastari).
